YOUTH TRAINING:
|

BUCKSKIN - Preparation for Troop Leadership.
Buckskin provides a structured, basic skills, summer
camping program to fulfill the needs of the first year camper following
the First Class emphasis program. The program is designed to prepare
new Scouts for the requirements of Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First
Class ranks. Also included in the program is instruction on First
Aid and Swimming Merit Badges.

CEDAR BADGE - Leadership Skills for New
Scouts.
Cedar Badge is Junior Leader Training, intended for
Boy Scouts who are preparing to lead their patrol. Scouts must be
Tenderfoot rank or higher to attend. The course consists of a morning at
camp, and an overnighter. Cedar Badge is for teaching young men leadership
skills and how to work with others to accomplish tasks, all in a solid
scouting environment.

DEN CHIEF - Leadership of Younger Scouts.
Den Chief Training is intended to build
enthusiasm for the job, develop high morale, and teach the skills he
will need to be successful. Presented in a single session, this
training combines fun and enjoyment with an excellent character building
experience. Participants will learn leadership, organization and, most
importantly, how to work with Cub Scouts. All participants
must be at least 12 years old and at least a "2nd Class" Scout.

FOXFIRE - Advanced Junior Leadership Training.
Foxfire expands on the training provided by
Buckskin. Foxfire is an intensive 8-day outdoor advanced leadership
training experience based on a Mountain-man theme. Foxfire takes the
Buckskin leadership training experience to the next level with high
adventure activities. These activities include: forge
operation, black powder shooting, primitive skills, crafts, rappelling,
and COPE team building experiences. Prerequisites include completing
your Buckskin ticket, must be at least 14 yea5rls old, and have
achieved the rank of Star Scout.

LEAVE NO TRACE - Awareness Program for Outdoor
Skills.
Leave No Trace is a nationally recognized outdoor
skills and ethics awareness program to reduce our impact on the
environment and on the experiences of other visitors.

ADULT TRAINING:

HIGH ADVENTURE TRAINING
Completing the LOST, Map and Compass and Basic
Backpacking courses makes you High-Adventure qualified, thus making
your unit eligible for the many high-adventure awards available in
Southern California.

MEGAVERSITY - Adult Leader Skills
Training
Megaversity is a wonderful opportunity for
leaders to gain useful skills in creating a fun and fulfilling
Scouting experience for youth members. All unit personnel are
encouraged to attend this beneficial and enlightening event. Every
boy deserves a trained leader. Attending this adult Scout Leader
training will help you offer the best program to your youth while
creating a fun and exciting atmosphere!

MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR ORIENTATION
This course helps a merit badge counselor
understand his job as a coach and counselor, who provides realistic
learning experiences to a boy in his study of a merit badge subject.
This training is typically done at the District level.

NEW LEADER ESSENTIALS
Designed for all volunteers, this course
provides the basics of the Scouting program, introduces age
appropriateness, and covers Scouting's values and methods. This
training is the foundation for all other BSA training, and is for
all leaders in all programs.

ROUNDTABLE
Roundtables are monthly informational
meetings run in each district. They provide all leaders with
information and ideas for the next month's theme, program helps,
changes in the Scouting program and details on upcoming events as
well as activities, games and hints to be used in upcoming meetings.
Our Temescal District
Roundtables are usually held the second Wednesday of the month at
the LDS Church on Lincoln in Corona at 7:30 p.m.

SAFE SWIM DEFENSE
Before a BSA group may engage in swimming
activities of any kind, a minimum of one adult leader must complete
Safe Swim Defense training, have a commitment card with them, and
agree to use the eight defenses in this plan.
Safe Swim Defense is usually offered at
district Roundtables during May or June.
Training is also available
online via the Council's

SAFETY AFLOAT
Safely Afloat has been developed to promote
boating and boating safety and to set standards for safe unit
activity afloat. Before a BSA group may engage in an excursion,
expedition, or tip on the water (canoe, raft, sailboat, motorboat,
rowboat, tube, or other craft), adult leaders for such activity must
complete "Safety Afloat Training," have a commitment card with them,
and be dedicated to full compliance with all nine points of Safety
Afloat.
Safety Afloat is usually offered at
district Roundtables during May or June.

WOOD BADGE - Advanced Leadership
Skills
Wood Badge presents participants with the
skills they need to be effective leaders at all levels of the
Scouting program: Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Varsity.
Wood Badge offers participants the tools to lead, as well as the
opportunity to practice leadership, all within the natural setting
of Camp Emerson.

YOUTH PROTECTION
This video offering, presented by a
qualified facilitator, is designed to give all leaders who work with
youth an overview of how to recognize, report, and avoid child abuse
situations in the Boy Scouts of America. Youth Protection Training
is required when obtaining a tour permit.

at most Roundtables, and at the council offices.
